Self-Care Tips for College Students

By Anonymous

  • Take a break from your phone. It is important to take a break from social media and what is going on in the world because it can sometimes be overwhelming, which can cause additional unnecessary stress. Remember it is okay to disconnect or click the "Do Not Disturb" button.

  • Take time to reflect and plan. Always take some time each day to look back and analyze how your day went. Look at areas of improvement or just take a minute to appreciate what you have. It is good to always have some sort of plan or organization in your life to keep you from feeling lost.

  • Go out for a walk/run. Sometimes we all need a little distance from reality, and taking a walk/run is a good way to clear your head and think things through. It is okay to step away and take a minute to yourself to think before you act. It is also a great workout!

  • Take a mental health day. Sometimes when the going gets tough, it is okay to take a break and give yourself the time to get back on your feet. None of us are Superman, we can't do everything by ourselves. It is okay to ask for help and it is okay to say "No" sometimes. Remember you can't save someone who is drowning if you are also drowning.

  • Reward yourself for the small things. It is hard to keep yourself motivated to keep pushing through, so why not celebrate your wins. Congratulate yourself for going to class, for getting out of bed, for finishing your homework, for doing the best you possibly could on your exam, etc. The smallest things are what keep us going and keep us motivated. Be your own cheerleader. You can do it, we all can.
